270 Park Avenue

270 Park Avenue

Demolishing and replacing a building is never a simple task--especially when it’s in Midtown Manhattan, occupies a full block, and is situated over Grand Central Terminal's underground rail tracks!

To accommodate trains underground, the project team behind 270 Park Avenue developed a two-story-high arrangement of steel transfer girders and sloping super-columns that came to be known as the Tabletop. In addition to precisely delivering the building's gravity and lateral loads, the Tabletop creates the illusion of the office tower floating above its lobby.
