McCormick Place Lakeside Center

Fifty years ago, Chicago's McCormick Place Lakeside Center won a 1972 Architectural Award of Excellence, the earliest predecessor to AISC's current IDEAS² Awards program.

Designed by Gene Summers of C. F. Murphy and Associates and containing steel fabricated by Allied Structural Steel Company, this structure replaced the previous McCormick Place exhibition hall, which was destroyed in a 1967 fire. Today, it's part of the largest convention center in North America!
