With several 700-ton spans constructed in assembly areas near the Metro-North Railroad Bridge over Atlantic Street, timing was crucial for the roll-in of the replacement bridge. The project team used self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) to roll in the spans--beneath live rail traffic--throughout the nine-day construction period.
