Roberto Clemente Bridge

Roberto Clemente Bridge

Completed in 1928 and originally named the Sixth Street Bridge, the Roberto Clemente Bridge was one of the first self-anchoring suspension bridges and utilized solid steel eye-bars for both the main suspension cables and the vertical support for the bridge deck. It won the very first NSBA Prize Bridge Award in 1928, and in its 90-plus years of service spanning the Allegheny River in downtown Pittsburgh, it has come to define Pittsburgh and its history.
