Alternative Contracting Techniques for Replacement and Rehabilitation of Steel Bridges [B20]

An emerging topic in the steel bridge industry is the utilization of unique contracting approaches beyond traditional and design-build. One such method is CM/GC, Construction Manager General Contractor -- or sometimes called Construction Manager at Risk. The Minnesota DOT has been a leader in establishing CMGC as a contracting tool for transportation projects.

This session will include a discussion of the CMGC contracting process with case studies on its benefits for steel bridge design and rehabilitation projects. We will discuss three CMGC projects: the AISC Prize Bridge-winning Rouchleau Mine Bridge, the Smith Avenue Bridge rehabilitation, and the rehabilitation of the Winona Bridge.
