Effective Communication of Connection Design

It is very common in steel construction for the structural engineer to specify on the contract documents that the structural steel connections are to be designed and completed by a professional engineer working for the steel fabricator. This presentation discusses common difficulties faced during the execution of this type of contract. Recommendations are presented regarding proper communication, supported by examples of communication techniques that have worked well and those that have been problematic. Items specifically addressed in the Code of Standard Practice, as well as items not addressed in this standard, are covered.
