Flexural Members: Is My Cb Factor Correct?
Engineers often use the lateral-torsional buckling modification factor Cb to adjust the strength of flexural members. Although one possible equation for Cb is provided in Ch. F of the AISC 360 Specification for Structural Steel Buildings; there exist several other possibilities in the Commentary and literature that may be more conducive to the situation at hand. Hear about the possibilities; and drastically improve the odds of employing the correct Cb when designing your next beam.
