Line Girder Analysis for Skewed Straight Steel I-Girder Bridges [B22]

Recent research has improved the understanding of line girder analysis for skewed straight steel I-girder bridges. This session describes a comparative analysis study using 3D finite element analysis and line girder analysis of 26 steel bridges. The study demonstrated that line girder models using equal distribution of dead loads to the girders, as well as established AASHTO live load distribution factors, provide an effective and efficient solution for skewed straight steel I-girder bridges with a skew index up to 0.45 and skew angle up to 50 degrees, within certain qualifications. This session will describe the research, recommendations, and potential for owner benefit and practical implementation.
