Partially Restrained and Flexible Moment Connections

For several years there has been extensive study of the behavior of connections that exhibit some moment restraint while also exhibiting some rotation. In past ASD specifications, these connections were called semi-rigid connections. Beginning with the 1986 LRFD Specification, they were referred to as Òpartially restrained connections.Ó With the introduction of the 2005 Specification, both ASD and LRFD design approaches use the terminology Òpartially restrained.Ó This session discusses the behavior of semi-rigid connections, their impact on members framing into them and how you can apply the flexible moment connection approach to system design.

This course is based on a past NASCC session.

You must purchase and pass a quiz to receive a PDH certificate for this course.
