Reduce Overall Steel Frame Costs - Early Connection Considerations are King! [E7]

Delegated connection design is a widely accepted and encouraged design practice in the steel design industry. Unfortunately, the consideration of steel connection design is all too often an afterthought during the design process of a structural steel frame, often resulting in a more expensive steel structure to construct.

This discussion will take an introductory look into steel construction economics to help the EOR make better choices during the design phase to reduce overall project costs. Then we will look at common design oversights that lead to uneconomical steel structures, and finally, we will focus on recommended areas where a focus on steel connections during member selection can reduce overall steel frame construction costs.
