Second-Order Elastic Analysis - Who/What is Rigorous? [N17A]

The commentary for Chapter C of the AISC 360-10 states, ""Rigorous second-order analyses are those that accurately model all significant second-order effects...Some- but not all, and possibly not even most -- modern commercial computer programs are capable of performing a rigorous second-order analysis""¦"" There are benchmark problems in the commentary to determine whether an analysis procedure meets the requirements of a rigorous 2nd-order analysis. So what is it? This session aims to answer that question, and give guidance to engineers on how they can use it and when they may not need to.
