Seismic Behavior and Design of Steel Diaphragms [M12]

For years the focus of seismic design of steel buildings has primarily been on the vertical lateral force resisting system. New design methods in ASCE 7, new findings in 3D models of buildings, and new experimental research are all shedding new light on the role of diaphragms in the seismic performance of steel buildings. The Steel Diaphragm Innovation Initiative (SDII), which is a cooperative effort between industry, academia, and federal research, is providing a focal point for new understanding and for implementing findings into design.
