SSPC Surface Preparation Standards - Shop Painting of Structual Steel

The first part of this three-part presentation considers the different shop methods used to clean steel surfaces, the degree of surface preparation that can be achieved by each method and the approximate man-hour cost to achieve them; it also covers the various surface preparations according to the SSPC surface preparation standards. The second portion focuses on different types of protective coatings (corrosion and fire protection) that are applied to steel surfaces, the degree of surface preparation required for each type of coating, the methods used to apply them and the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Finally, part three is a review of bare steel and post-coating architecturally exposed structural steel finishes.
