T.R. Higgins Lecture: Get Fired Up: What Structural Engineers Should Know About Fire Design [N79]

Maria Garlock, PhD, an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University, is the 2016 recipient of the T.R. Higgins Lectureship Award on the basis of her work in fire resistance in steel structures. Typically, fire protection is the responsibility of the architect, but it is becoming more common today that the structural engineer is involved--and necessary when fire engineering becomes desirable for a project. This lecture will focus on what the structural engineer needs to know about fire protection and design, and what benefits and advantages steel structures offer in fire resistance.
