To 3 or Not to 3 [M11]
Specifying a seismic force resisting system (SFRS) with R greater than 3 results in designing for less force. However, it comes at a price! The connections are more expensive due to more stringent strength and detailing requirements. At the same time, foundations can be sized for smaller loads for R-greater-than-3 systems. This session will examine this trade-off and how the selection of a SFRS affects the total building cost, not just the steel tonnage.
This course is based on a past NASCC session.
You must purchase and pass a quiz to receive a PDH certificate for this course.
