Steel Structure Trivia: How Are You Celebrating SteelDay?

Earlier this week, AISC hosted a “pre-SteelDay” presentation and tour of the new Sacramento Kings Arena job site for about 75 attendees to explore the project first-hand. Members of the project team from Turner Construction, Sacramento; Buehler & Buehler Structural Engineers, Inc., Sacramento; Thornton Tomasetti, San Francisco; and Schuff Steel, Stockton, Calif. (an AISC Member/Certified fabricator) lead the presentation and tour of the project, which is using 9,000 tons of structural steel. The roof structure is formed of two, 212-ton, 340-ft box trusses that consist of three sections (six total). Each weigh approximately 50 tons and measure about 120 ft long by 14 ft wide by 15 ft high. Photo: Kristy Davis, AISC
