It's Throwback Thursday and we're throwing it back to the 2008 NASCC: The Steel Conference in Nashville. During this conference, Lawrence Griffis of Walter P. Moore, presented an insightful session called "Wind Versus Seismic--Which Controls?"
It's important for engineers to know early on whether wind or seismic controls the design, and the IBC invokes seismic design all across the U.S.--not just in the western states.
Click here to check out the recording of Griffis' presentation to see how seismic loading can control design (even in the central US), and to learn simple procedures for wind and seismic load calculations and useful comparisons for preliminary design.

Each Thursday over the coming weeks, we'll feature one expert-led session from a past Steel Conference. All are as relevant today as when they were originally presented and are packed full of valuable information.
And as always, you can find over 2,000 free recorded webinars, conference proceedings, and articles that can be accessed any time in our Education Archives.
