For 2Life Communities, constructing a two-story addition on top of existing facilities offered the advantage of linking two adjacent residential towers. At the same time, it prompted the project team to get creative--and structural steel was the answer.

The design of the existing building made it impossible to introduce interior columns to support two additional floors. That's why the team decided to support the structure from the outside and even cantilevered the front of the building to architecturally integrate the placement of the large pile-supported footings!
