Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge

When the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, it was the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world; NSBA awarded it a Prize Bridge Award that same year. Officials held a weeklong Fiesta to celebrate its debut, with parades, a “49er Fandango” ball, sports tournaments, a hard-rock drilling contest, street festivals for young and old, a memorial service for workers killed during the bridge’s construction, and many more commemorative events.
