James C. Parker is a Senior Principal at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH).  James has extensive experience in both structural engineering and building enclosure structures. His work ranges from new structural design to investigation and retrofit of existing buildings, and design of high-performance building facade structures.  His exposure both to new construction design and to existing building investigation/evaluation enables Mr. Parker to bring creative solutions to the design process that reflect a realistic understanding of the performance of building and enclosure structures.

Mr. Parker is the author of the AISC Design Guide 22, Facade Attachments to Steel-Framed Buildings and has presented extensively on the subject.  He has also worked extensively performing seismic assessments of structures in areas of significant seismic risk worldwide is a voting member of the Seismic Rehabilitation Committee for the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE 41, which is the standard for seismic evaluation and rehabilitation.  Mr. Parker provides consulting to design teams on how to accommodate seismic drift in high-performance facade systems.

With SGH since 1985, Mr. Parker started his career in SGH's Boston area office and has led SGH's Los Angeles office since 2008.  He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Cincinnati and Master's degree from Cornell University.
