Student Competitions

The American Institute of Steel Construction is proud to sponsor the following steel-related student competitions.

Student Design Competition
Sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction and administered by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, the program is intended to challenge students, working individually or in teams, to explore a variety of issues related to the use of steel in design and construction.

Student Steel Bridge Competition
This inter-collegiate challenge requires civil engineering students to design, fabricate and construct a steel bridge. The Student Steel Bridge Competition is sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction. Student teams participate in one of 18 Regional Events, and the top teams in each region move on to compete in the National Finals typically held in late May.

A new design-only team contest has been developed for 2021 that allows for 100% virtual participation from start to finish. This Supplemental Competition provides a broader breadth of opportunities for teams to experience the SSBC in light of potential restrictions imposed by the ongoing pandemic.

RePicture STEM Resume-Builder Program
AISC has teamed up with RePicture as a partner in their STEM Resume-Builder Program. In this program, students will research a project constructed in structural steel. Working with RePicture’s project template and helpful directions, students will gain experience researching factual information, writing for a specific audience, citing sources, and clearly presenting information in an engaging and visual way.
