What is this odd "AISC publication number XYZ" that someone says I need? Often this is the result of a misunderstanding. In the distant past, AISC used to publish a catalog, and all AISC publications had catalog numbers. For example, the Steel Construction Manual was catalog number M325. Those numbers were only used for ordering and stocking books. Because the AISC Specification was printed in the Manual, sometimes enterprising folks would start adding AISC's catalog numbers to their job specifications. Besides the fact that we all KNOW we're not supposed to reference the Manual in a job specification--we all reference the AISC Specification itself, right?--it just wasn't a bright idea to appropriate what was essentially a catalog ID this way. The short answer: if you run into some odd number, scan the list below for the same three-digit code, and a modern version of that document may be what was intended.
